2011 EFL Divisions, Schedule Structure, and Opponents Named

The EFL Board and team reps met over the weekend, and divisions for 2011 have been finalized. For the 2011 season each team will play 10 regular season games. There are 16 teams for the 2011 season, with 4 teams per division.

.

Teams will play each team within its own division twice (once home and once away), and will play a rivalry game against all 4 teams in an opposing division. The Oilers will play the East division, thus playing Braintree, Charlestown, Boston, and Hyde Park.

The 2011 EFL division alignment will be as follows:

West
W. Mass Blitzin' Bears
Clinton Irish Blizzard
Worcester Mass Fury
Twin City Blue Raiders

South
Taunton Gladiators
Middleboro Cobras
Bay State Bucs
Quincy Militia

East
Boston Ravens
Braintree Cowboys
Charlestown Townies
E. Mass Seminoles

North
Randolph Oilers
Granite State Knights
Northeast Knights
Maine Sabers

Schedule analysis
:

*  All 3 of the other North division teams are based out of state, so there will be quite a bit of travel for the Oilers and their fans.

The North division doesn’t include any of the perennial league powerhouses (Clinton, defending champ Taunton, Charlestown), or any of the more established recent additions (Boston, Western Mass, Middleboro, Braintree, etc). So at least in theory the North does not seem to be the strongest division in the EFL.

*  But to be the best you have to best the best, and the Oilers don’t shy away from any competition. So regardless of how difficult the division turns out to be the Oilers are also looking forward to cross-division games vs 3 of the best teams in the EFL last year: Boston, Charlestown, and Braintree.

*   The NE Knights and Sabers are new to the league (although the NE Knights have played in other leagues with great success), which presents some challenges in scouting and preparation. No one knows what to expect from these new teams. Last season Boston and Western MA were new additions, and they proved to be two of the top teams in the EFL.

*  The Granite State team is in their second year in the EFL, and run by former Oiler great Mark Harding, and appear poised to capitalize on the progress they made in teh second half of teh 2010 season.

*  But the bottomline is: regardless of who is on the schedule, the Oilers are just flat out excited to get back on the field and play football. Randolph is getting back to old school Oiler football: speed, strength, power, intimidation...and WINNING
.

The official dates and times for each game have not been issued yet, but as soon as they are we will post that information here on the website.

The official 2011 schedule with exact dates, times, and locations will be released in early May 2011.
