Commitment Award

            THE ROBERT "BUDDY" THOMPSON /
        RANDOLPH OILERS COMMITMENT AWARD

One of the Oilers traditions, and one small way in which the Oiler family shows its appreciation to our brave men and women who serve in the US Military is through the Robert "Buddy" Thompson / Randolph Oiler Commitment Award.

The Commitment Award  was established to acknowledge the member of the Randolph Oilers who has served in the in the United States military and who best exemplifies the love of football, commitment to family, and dedication to his country.

Buddy Thompson, who sadly passed away in May 2011, was a former Marine during the Korean War. He was also a former running back who loved the game of football, and in recent years was exceptionally passionate in his support of the Randolph Oilers for whom his nephew T.D. Thompson was a co-captain.

Buddy was a devoted family man who bravely served his country, and he would be thrilled to know that an award in his name is presented to a member of the Oilers who share his passion for football and the deep commitment to the USA as demonstrated through their military service.

Each season the award recognizes one Oiler player who has served in the US Military, and who represents the values most important to the late Buddy Thompson: commitment and love of country, family, and football.

As part of the award, the Oilers make a donation of $250 to the Wounded Warriors Fund in the name of the award recipient.

Additionally, for the last two years Schutt Helmets has generously donated a state of the art new helmet to the award winner.
